Nature of Material: lapis lazuli (LAP-iss-LAZH-uh-Iee) is a rock composed primarily of lazurite, calcite, and pyrite (may also contain some hauynite, sodalite, with small amounts of diopside, augite, mica, and horn¬blende); chemical composition varies depending on mineral content
